The closed pyramid-like bulb of this darwin hybrid has many tones, shades and colors in its spectacular flower. Varying shades of red, including hints of rose and plum, add color play to the outside of petals as they emerge from a purple base. Then, when the bloom opens to reveal its giant interior, the petals give a completely different impression, seeming a darker red against a black base, trimmed with bright yellow.
