Salvia 'Schneehügel'
Salvia 'Schneehügel' (which translates from the German as snow hill) is a striking, compact plant for the herbaceous or mixed border. With its common name of woodland sage, this short-growing salvia produces masses of flower stems, topped by vertical spikes of pure white flowers from early to late summer. The light green, felty leaves have pronounced veining, and edges that are finely toothed. Even once the blooms have died back, its foliage will continue to look attractive in the border. For best results, grow Salvia nemorosa 'Schneehügel' in full sun or light shade, in moist, fertile, well-drained soil. It is fully hardy, unlike many salvias!
Salvia 'Schneehügel' can either be grown among other upright plants, or used to contrast with softer, lower-growing foliage plants. With its pure white flowers, it looks particularly good growing next to shrubs and perennials with dark or silver leaves.
