Paeonia 'Raspberry Sundae'
Few garden plants can have been so aptly named as this Paeonia 'Raspberry Sundae'. This is a so-called bomb-shaped lactiflora double peony, meaning that it has a central, raised mass of smaller petals. Colour-wise, 'Raspberry Sundae' has large, pale pink outer petals surrounding a collar of vanilla-hued petals. Then, these are topped by a mass of curly, pale pink petals. The extreme centre is slightly depressed with a few very narrow, tiny, pale-yellow petals. Altogether breathtaking!
The blooms of Paeonia lactiflora 'Raspberry Sundae' (which is quite a rare variety), have a delightfully fruity fragrance, and are free-flowering. They are carried on tall, strong stems, and they will light up your garden in early summer. Along with its attractive, finely divided dark green foliage, the beautiful perennial Paeonia 'Raspberry Sundae' is perfect for the front or mid-way point in a border, either in full sun or part shade. By the way, this is an extremely good cultivar for cutting, too, but you’ll need a sturdy vase to support the large, heavy heads!
