Paeonia 'Krinkled White'

Paeonia 'Krinkled White'

Despite being almost a hundred years old, Paeonia 'Krinkled White' is still one of the best of the single Lactiflora perennial peonies. Its petals are milky-white and crinkly-edged. When catching the light they look a little bit like crepe paper. As the blooms open, they have the merest of pink flushes. A secondary feature of each cup-shaped bloom of Paeonia 'Krinkled White' is the tuft of golden yellow stamens in the centre – giving, to some, a successful overall impression of a fried egg!

Paeonia lactiflora 'Krinkled White' is an outstanding bushy herbaceous peony, with delicately divided, rich green leaves (which also seem to bring out the best in other plants growing next to it)! Regarded as a mid-season peony, it is at its absolute best in late spring/early summer. Other plus points are that 'Krinkled White' does not need staking, it stands up well to rainy weather, and it even makes a superb flower for cutting and vase decoration.

Even after the flowers of Paeonia 'Krinkled White' have faded, the foliage continues to look fresh, green and healthy, before taking on attractive tints in the autumn.
