Oxalis regnellii

Oxalis regnellii

Known variously as the green flowering shamrock, or the green wood sorrel, Oxalis regnellii has large clover-like leaves and dainty white blooms. It’s a South American native beauty that is elegant, graceful—and delightful. In late spring and over summer its flowers of pure-white sweep gracefully from their stems, which rise above the unique, triangular bright green leaves. This is a stand-out feature plant for patio pots, hanging baskets and the front of a border in summer. Or, grow it as a houseplant on sunny windowsills or in conservatories, for autumn and early winter!

Outdoors in the UK, Oxalis regnellii likes a position in full sun or part shade. If growing in a patio pot, it looks particularly handsome in a dark coloured ceramic container. It is, however, frost-tender: it might survive outdoors over winter in warm, sheltered gardens, but expect to give it some winter protection.

Pleasingly, you won’t have to wait long for the little bulbs to bloom! The first flowers usually appear around eight weeks after planting!
