Echinacea 'Green Twister'
Few plants will create such a talking point with your visitors as this recently introduced echinacea, or coneflower. Echinacea 'Green Twister' produces fascinating and beautiful blended petals, each one lime-green with a vivid purple base – a fabulous contrast. Added to that, the petals radiate out from a large, copper-red centre. The flower is beautifully scented and is great for attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators into the garden. All summer long, Echinacea 'Green Twister' will make an excellent feature in mixed borders, or in patio containers; it’s a hardy perennial that will keep coming back year after year, bigger and better!
Echinacea 'Green Twister' was an accidental find by a German flower breeder. At first it was thought to be ‘different’ because of virus disease – lots of plants were destroyed. Eventually, through testing, it was discovered that there was absolutely no virus at all, and that the amazing two-tone colouring is due to a 100% healthy, natural colour break, known as a sport! The bright green edges become more pronounced as the plants get older, and the peak in colour definition will occur after two or three years.
