Amaryllis 'Lemon Star'

Amaryllis 'Lemon Star'

A word we would not normally associate with any form of Hippeastrum is lemon. But here we are, with Amaryllis 'Lemon Star', and it has to be the freshest-looking and most citrus-like of any. With daintier, smaller flowers than most, and produced in abundance, experts do seem to disagree on the exact colours. Are they greenish yellow? Or lime-white? Or cream-yellow with a hint of green? We think the picture speaks for itself—and you should choose how to describe it. However, the centre of each flower is definitely apple-green!

And this is a beautiful Hippeastrum. Amaryllis 'Lemon Star' is one of the Diamond Group hippeastrums, meaning that the flowers are single (rather than double), with a diameter of between 12-16cm. It points to this being a superior plant, for the home, conservatory or greenhouse. And don’t be fooled into thinking that Amaryllis 'Lemon Star' is just a flower for the Christmas period. You can decide when it should flower—winter, spring or early summer. Simply keep the bulbs cool and dry, until you want to plant them. They should flower 10-12 weeks after planting, depending on conditions.
